This Baptismal banner contains golden and orange images of sunrise/sunset at the top and the varied blues of the oceans, lakes and rivers in the lower portion of the weaving.
Baptism is God’s total claim on our lives, and the large shell is a symbol adapted from pagan sources and interpreted by the Christian Church to signify immortality. When the ‘hinge’ of the shell is at the top of the design, as it is here, the grooves in the shell remind us of the sun’s rays. The three water drops symbolize both the earthly element used in baptism and the doctrine of the Trinity. The movement in the banner is both upwards and down. We are buried with Christ through our baptism into His death, but are raised again by God’s grace and forgiveness to newness of life . . .
a gift that lasts for all time and eternity.
