These red paraments are part of a full set [two ante- pendia each for a lectern, pulpit and altar, plus two banners, veil and burse] used on the Day of Pentecost and special days commemorating martyrs of the Church. An array of red yarns and threads are interspersed with gold and yellow to give the fabric texture and life, depicting the activity of the Holy Spirit. Each banner contains the image of a large gold cross that appear as mirror images when hung at each side of the chancel. Metallic threads catch light and add luster and vibrancy to the appearance of all the paraments. The burse and veil, like all the other items, feature a random pattern of vertical stripes, reminiscent of our Lord’s comparing the Holy Spirit to the wind, which blows where it wishes. The burse is loosely hinged to accommodate several purificators.
