This green chasuble is made of synthetic taffeta cloth, highlighted by gold and green woven metallic trim and lined with a darker shade of green silk. An ancient vestment, it is worn over a stole and alb by clergy officiating at the Eucharist (Holy Communion).
The chasuble reminds us that those who celebrate the Sacrament of the Altar function in a role that is at the same time glorious, yet devoid of self-importance a function similar to that played by the cloth pall that sometimes is placed on caskets at funerals.
