These purple items are part of a full set of Lenten paraments, consisting of two banners, six antependia, a veil and a burse.
The basic fabric is a combination of threads in varying shades of purple and black. The burse and veil are lined with silk. All the antependia are attached with Velcro strips.
The banners are a special feature and are designed for dual use. The purple and black overlay uses a historic “overshot” pattern of small crosses within larger crosses and is thus a perfect representation of the Lenten season. For Good Friday, the overlays are lifted up and placed behind the banners, displaying solid sections of black velvet appropriate for that even more somber day.
